Why standard caps don't always work

A standard cap is cut for an average head, which leaves very little room for a lot of hair. That usually means one of two things, the cap feels too tight from the start, or hair gradually works its way loose part way through a session.

What a proper long hair cap does differently

A cap built specifically for long hair solves this with extra internal volume and a non slip inner lining that keeps hair in place once it's tucked away, rather than working itself loose as you swim. They're made from the same hypoallergenic silicone as a standard cap, so there's no compromise on durability to get the extra room.

Worth considering too: standard silicone with a suede finish

If you don't need the full extra volume, a standard silicone cap is still a solid option for medium length hair, particularly with the suede finish, which tends to grip a little better going on and off. It won't have the dedicated internal space of a long hair specific cap, but for hair that's long rather than very thick, it's often enough.

A couple of fitting tips

Putting the cap on slowly rather than stretching it straight over the top makes a real difference, start at the forehead and roll it back rather than pulling down in one go. Tying hair back loosely before putting the cap on, rather than in a tight bun, also tends to help it sit properly once it's on.
